Artist Spotlight features an exclusive interview with a musician or group and takes a deep-dive into their music. The show airs every Saturday morning at 7:00 and Sunday evening at 6:00.As part of our mission to promote the music around the area, WBOM interviews many artists that are playing at the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center. How Do You Know If You’ve Got the Blues?Recently, the ever-helpful staff of volunteers at WBOM decided to tackle that very question.We kick off the blues show every evening with some simple questions. Questions that can determine whether or not you have the blues. For example:Maybe you’ve been waiting for your woman all evening and she shows up with her husband.Maybe your dog has been sneaking around with other owners.Maybe the “L” in your luck has been replaced by “F”.Of course, WBOM plays the best (or is it the worst?) blues every night during the midnight hour. If you’re tuned in, that’s how you know you have the blues.

In Print Radio

In Print Radio is our award-winning show about writing by writers. It features exclusive interviews with authors, editors, and other people who work in the industry. In Print Radio started in 2013 by the former In Print Professional Writers Group. Their legacy continues today with the help of volunteers at WBOM and the Chicago Writers Association.Periodically, In Print Radio records in front of a live audience. Members of the audience can ask their own questions at the end, meet the authors, and purchase their books. Lingua Franca

WBOM plays music primarily in English throughout the day, but our new show – Lingua Franca – features the best music from around the world.We’ve been having a lot of fun programming the show and we are trying to add music in as many languages as possible. So far, the playlist includes music in Albanian, Arabic, Ashanti, Bengali, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, French, Gaelic, German, Greek, Hawaiian, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Latvian, Lithuanian, Mongolian, Norwegian, Pinoy, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Sami, Spanish, Swedish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Welsh, Xhosa, and Zulu. It’s interesting to hear the “hit” sounds from around the world. We’ve also been surprised to discover familiar songs in English in other languages – whether they originated in another language or were covered later.Tune into Lingua Franca Saturday and Sunday nights around 8 pm – immediately after The Inner Groove on Saturday, and Performance on Sunday.If you have a song you’d like us to add to the mix, let us know about it. There's something about the way the crowd comes to life when the band hits the stage. There's an energy in the music that can't be captured in the studio. With all the equipment, production and gimmicks, there's still nothing quite like listening to the real thing where the music is raw, unfiltered, with no change for a second take.Listen to LIve at Five where we give sixty minutes of the best music ever played in front of an audience seven days a week.

Part of our mission is to promote local music in the area. WBOM starts “close to home”, recording most of the artists who perform on the Starr Center stage at the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center (one floor up from our studio).
